From this class I will take:

How to do a research.

How to analyze the sources for the research.

Different ways of writing, multimodal remix, infographic.

Different types of genre in writing.

My writing skill have improve from writing almost everyday.

2. I liked the multimodal remix, I have never done an assignment like that and I think is was fun. I liked the part of creating a blog because is a different way of writing than the typical essay. I liked the freedom that we have to choose the topic so it makes more easier to write about something that you like. I also liked the part of learning about how to analyze the sources, I think it is really important for future researches.

I didn’t like that we have to create so many blogs per week, I don’t really like writing. The schedule for the class is really packed so if you work sometimes is was hard to finish everything on time. I didn’t like to read the class book, I enjoy more looking for the information online.

I think you did a really good job choosing the blog and the multimodal remix, because there are things that usually we won’t do for other classes.

I didn’t like the way the class is organize sometimes I didn’t know what I have to research and If I have to keep the information for past researches or not.

I think the most important think that I learned in this class is that there are different ways to share your information and reach the same audience using different ways. Also how to choose your sources wisely.

I probably will leave the assignment online, I have used my time to create and maybe in the future I would like to write more and improve the website. I didn’t have any responses. I have learned that is more challenging that what you can think, that you have to analyze your audience so you publish the right content in the medium. Also I have learn that there is a lot of mediums to share information.

I think the reflections will help me in other classes since I will try to achieve the goals of my essays thinking in a more critical way. I usually didn’t think about all the task that we have to think to write the reflections but now for future assignment I will be thinking what is my audience and how I should address them, what type of genre I should use, what are my goals and how I will achieve them. I think the reflections are really useful to analyze the process of creation from the different assignments and see what steps we should follow.

The terms rhetorical situation, composing and discourse community vary from the academic paper to the multimodal assignment. In the multimodal assignment we will be using different methods to reach the viewers, while creating the academic paper we only use text in the multimodal assignment we will be using images, sounds or a strong call for action.

Composing will be also different in this assignment since we won’t be writing that much, our projects can have text but it won’t be as much as in the academic paper. The discourse community will also vary a little bit since it will be online not everybody will have access to it but everybody that has a computer will be able to access the information.

The target audience for my multimodal text is everybody that has an interested in the topic that I will be discussing, it may require to have previous knowledge in the topic and may be some scientific knowledge but almost everybody will be able to understand. My target audience will exclude those that don’t have a computer and can`t reach the information. To reach my audience I will be using pictures and text, the material that I use will reach the audience feelings and logic so they will support my solution to the problem.

To move the information I will use the social media mostly, since it will be easy to make my friends or followers to share my url to their friends and followers. This will create a circulation of my text reaching more people.

I will employ exigence showing how bad the problem can get if what the scientist are predicting became true.

http://www.livescience.com/51155-globally-plants-will-not-benefit-as-climate-warms.html

I will use the information in this article to give my viewers more information of what environments are suffering the most due to Climate Change. Since all the information will be online could be update when new information is arise so the text present in the multimodal assignment won’t be obsolete.

Exigence:  In rhetoric, an issue, problem, or situation that causes or prompts someone to write or speak.(http://grammar.about.com/od/e/g/exigenceterm.htm)

Rhetorical situation: The context of a rhetorical act, made up (at a minimum) of a rhetor, an issue (or exigence), and an audience (http://grammar.about.com/od/rs/g/rhetsituaterm.htm).

Composing: Write or create (a work of art, especially music or poetry). Phrase (a letter or piece of writing) with great care and thought. Form (a whole) by ordering or arranging the parts, especially in an artistic way. (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/english/compose?q=composing)

Discourse community: used in composition studies and sociolinguistics for a group of people who share certain language-using practices (http://grammar.about.com/od/d/g/Discourse-Community.htm).

Identifies a grouping of people who share common language norms, characteristics, patterns, or practices as a consequence of their ongoing communications and identification with each other. (http://www.ncte.org/college/briefs/dc)

Audience: The assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a play, film, concert, or meeting. The people who watch or listen to a television or radio programme. The readership of a newspaper, magazine, or book. (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/english/audience)

Multimodality: This term is used to describe the different modes of human communication (visual, verbal, gestural etc). Quality of a system to allow more than one communication modality to be used during human-computer interaction.(http://www.igi-global.com/dictionary/multimodality/19644).

Circulation:  The number of people that a newspaper or magazine is regularly sold to. The process in which something such as information, money, or goods passes from one person to another. (http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/circulation)

http://blog.conservation.org/2012/04/climate-change-increases-costs-of-conserving-biodiversity/

The exigence of this article is the lost of biodiversity due to climate change. It have been different stories in the newspaper related to this topic and mostly with the pole ice melting problem.

The audience of this blog is everybody that is interested on this topic since it is online and everybody with a computer have access to it. The rhetorical situation persuades the readers about the problem and push them to act.

The blog is a composition because has a text that have been create for the author and also has been arrange in a certain order to create the desired effect on the readers. It differ from an academic paper in the citations that are made by hyperlinks to the articles or websites while in the academic paper you have to use in text citations. Other thing that is different is the style usually in academic paper the follow MLA or oder style but in internet they don’t have to follow those rules. In both case authors use a formal writing to talk about their topics.

The discourse community will be people with a previous knowledge in the topic or that are new, in the first case they will try to learn more about the topic. In the second case is people that have discovered the topic recently and are trying to learn more about it.

I think I will be using a website, Facebook page or an online magazine.

https://www.facebook.com/NASAClimateChange

http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/

http://www.igbp.net/publications/globalchangemagazine/globalchangemagazine/globalchangemagazineno83.5.950c2fa1495db7081e35b.html

I think the three of them will have the same target audience and the only variation will be in the case of the Facebook page where only those people that are interesting in the topic but have a Facebook account will be able to look at the information provided in detail.

Pros of the website: is easy to access, have a lot of information, you can update the information everyday, easy to navigate, is free. Cons: you have to have a computer, there is a price to maintain the website.

Pros of Facebook: you can publish almost everything, there is a major redistribution, is free.

Cons: not everybody has access, there is a limit of space for information.

Magazin, pros: a strong design, contain trusty information, writer usually are scientists.

Cons: information can’t be updated, you have to pay to read it.

The target audience of multimodal text is everybody that have access to the information and is interested in the topic that has been discussed in the multimodal text. The author use images, text and hyperlinks to provide the readers with enough information. The goal is to provide information about certain topic to the readers and I think in this case is being achieved.

I think I would use the website because is a big space that would give me the chance to put all the information necessary to show my audience what is the problem but also I can provide them with possible solutions.

I probably wouldn’t use the magazine, there is to many information to provide, in Facebook or in a website you can move a round and go to different pages just with one click but in the magazine I will have to order and provide al the information in the same place.

I would use Facebook, it easy to write a post and share it with your friends and also is an easy way do diffuse the information since your friends can also share your Facebook page with their friends.

The Proposal of Solution genre can be describe as a text where we are putting together different types of information with a final goal. In a proposal of solution paper there is information from different sources that but there is also our own information and knowledge about the topic that we are discussing. The final goal of the paper is to convince people that the solution that we are proposing for the problem is the right one and they should support us. To convince people we are also using rhetorical strategies.

Task list:

Strong thesis

Support sources

MLA citation style

Solution

Organization

Analysis

Blog Post #26

From the four terms proposed I have defined discourse community, audience and rhetorical situation. We defined those two terms in previous assignments and I think the use and meaning are the same that they have in past assignments, since the audience of our Solution proposal can vary but the meaning of the terms will reaming the same. With discourse community is the same we can address different target audience and the discourse community can vary but the meaning of the term is the same. Rhetorical situation we maybe didn’t define the term but we took a look on what a rhetorical situation could be, we use rhetoric to persuade our readers and make them support our ideas in past assignments, and I don’t think this term has change from past assignments to this one.

The new term:

Composing is to write o create something also it could be write or phrase something with care and thought (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/compose?q=composing). In the case of composing that has different meanings we will use the ones that I have pointed out. For this class we are writing new things almost everyday to finally complete our final assignment with the solution proposal, while we are creating this assignments we are taking care of the organization to arrange all the parts with care.
